International Conference on Knowledge Processing in Practice
28. 09. 2007
September 28 - 30, 2007, Darmstadt (Germany) http://www.fbi.h-da.de/kpp2007
Aims The International Conference on Knowledge Processing in Practice aims at bringing together practitioners and researchers in this dynamic interdisciplinary field. Knowledge Processing today spans a broad spectrum of approaches and techniques from classical data evaluation over artificial intelligence with information retrieval and machine learning to conceptual knowledge processing with its graphical tools for knowledge visualisation.
The central focus of the conference is to provide a platform to demonstrate case studies, to present experience reports and to discuss state-of-the-art research and techniques for knowledge processing in practice. Therefore, particular emphasis will be placed on the technology and experience transfer aspects between practitioners and academic researchers in order to foster mutual learning and application-oriented research and development in this area based on empirical needs. It is planned to evolve KPP into a series of conferences.
Conference Chairs Honorary Chair: Rudolf Wille, Darmstadt University of Technology Program Chairs: Urs Andelfinger, Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences Karl Erich Wolff, Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences Program Committee: Bernhard Ganter, Dresden University of Technology Wolfgang Hesse, University of Marburg Uta Störl, Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences
Invited Speakers: Prof. Dr. Rudolf Wille, Darmstadt University of Technology Prof. Dr. Sergei Kuznetsov, Higher School of Economics, Moscow Prof. Dr. Dmitri Pal'chunov, Sobolev Institute of Mathematics, Novosibirsk Prof. Dr. Gerd Stumme, University of Kassel
- Scope*
- We are interested in contributions in various forms (presentations, conference papers, prototype, position papers, workshops) with a special focus on practical Knowledge Processing applications and applied research
- in any area. For the first conference, the initial focus is on industry and business applications of knowledge processing methods, other areas are welcome.
Suggested topics of interest (non-exhaustive): ˇ Application areas o Industrial applications o Applications in Economy and Business o Applications in Medicine ˇ Disciplinary foundations o Computer and Information Sciences o Software Engineering o Artificial Intelligence ˇ Specific methods o Data Analysis and Data Mining o Knowledge Processing Tools o Formal Concept Analysis (FCA): Tools and Applications
Contributions are strongly encouraged to link specific knowledge processing methods with practical challenges and to show how they meet empirical requirements. Emphasis should be put on insights from applying knowledge processing methods in practice and on formulating further research aims based on empirical needs. Contributions from research are encouraged to demonstrate their empirical relevance.
- Language*
- The conference languages are German and English.
Submission details All submissions will be judged based on their technical and conceptual merits combined with their relevance for practical application. For all submissions, a one page abstract in PDF format must be received by June 1, 2007. Abstracts should clearly state the purpose, results and conclusions of the work to be described in the final contribution or presentation. Based on the contributions submitted, an appropriate format of publication will be discussed and decided during the conference.
Call for Workshop Proposals Workshop proposals for KPP 2007 are invited on any of the areas of interest to the knowledge processing in practice community, including specialized sub-areas. For all workshop proposals, a one page abstract in PDF format must be received by June 15, 2007. Abstracts should clearly state the target audience, purpose and learning objectives of the workshop.
Important dates Abstract submission (papers and presentations): June 1, 2007 Workshop proposal submission: June 15, 2007 Notification of Acceptance (for papers, presentations and workshops): July 10, 2007 Conference: September 28 - 30, 2007
