eContent + programme presented

27. 05. 2007

eContentplus is a multiannual Community programme which has as overall objective "to make digital content in Europe more accessible, usable and exploitable, facilitating the creation and diffusion of information, in areas of public interest, at Community level".

It has been presented during the General Assembly of PROLEARN and recorded for dissemination on the 15th of May in Milton Keynes.

The programme has a total budget of 149 M€ for the period 2005-2008 and is implemented through annual calls for proposals. The annual budget for the 2007 and 2008 calls is 47 M€.

The programme has an enabling role: it will contribute to creating better conditions for accessing, using, reusing and exploiting digital material, based on which it will be possible to build added-value products and services across Europe.

In 2007 the programme calls for proposals in the area of educational content addressing a series of issues:
- Implementation of standards and specifications of learning technologies on both user-generated and professionally produced content.
- Facilitate complementary use of professionally produced content and user-generated content.
- Semantic interoperability between digital libraries of content held by cultural institutions and Learning Content Management Systems
- Finding contents matching the needs of the users (e.g. competency profiles).
