The ultimate goal of the Semantic Web is to enable applications which offer enhanced and efficient possibilities for end users to benefit from electronically stored information. The vision of a Semantic Web, "in which information is given a well-defined meaning, better enabling computers and people to work in cooperation" already stresses the importance of efficient end user support for accessing and working with Web information.

However, current development in the Semantic Web focuses on formalisms, languages, reasoning and the development of according technological frameworks, so to speak the first part of the vision. These technologies shall constitute an environment capable of enabling enhanced, efficient and user-centered applications, thus enabling the second part of the vision, and the goal of the Semantic Web.

This workshop will bring together researchers and practitioners in the fields of Semantic Web technologies and personalization in order to discuss their theoretical and practical knowledge, issues, and experiences for common benefit. It is organized along two thematical foci and corresponding sessions: Semantic Web-enabling Technologies for Personalization, and Semantic-based Content Personalization in Ubiquitous Environments.

For the first session on Semantic Web-enabling Technologies for Personalization, we expect submissions to discuss especially some of the following topics:

  • Reasoning and rules for user modeling and personalization

in the Semantic Web

  • Information extraction for capturing semantics
  • Acquisition and application of user profiles
  • Ontology aligning and evolution for user modeling
  • User-aware querying in the Semantic Web
  • Trust, privacy and transparency in the personalization process
  • Semantic Web Services and Service-oriented architectures

for personalization

For the second session on Semantic-based Content Personalization in Ubiquitous Environments, we expect submissions to discuss especially some of the following topics:

  • Semantically enriched user models for ubiquitous and

mobile environments

  • Content-based filtering exploiting content semantics
  • Social filtering (collaborative filtering) exploiting content

semantics

  • Hybrid filtering technologies using content semantics
  • Filtering technologies for heterogeneous content

based on semantics

  • How to use semantics for preference description

Furthermore, for both sessions, submissions about best practices and applications are sought, discussing e.g.:

  • Needs: scenarios where personalization brings benefits
  • Experiences: lessons learnt from previous research
  • Solutions: for personalized access to content in a Semantic Web

Submission Guidelines:

Two submission categories are accepted for the workshop:

  • Full papers: 10 pages
  • Short papers: 5 pages
