K2 Summit: Researching Technologies for Tomorrow's Learning

Date
Monday, 20. September 2004

Main text
20-21 September, Amsterdam: The major K2 event in Amsterdam on the 20-21 September 2004 will focus on knowledge sharing and looking at future issues.

The event will provide an overview of the current status and an outlook to the future of research in the technology-enhanced learning domain. The event is designed to bring together technology-enhanced learning R&D projects and professionals from across Europe and beyond and therefor structured primarily around interactive sessions. PROLEARN will be chairing the last session.

The programme is a mix of presentations and interactive sessions, in which we loosely follow the future search methodology, enabling us to analyse the achievements of today and to outline pathways for the future of e-learning research.

The proceedings of the event will be recorded as a written record of the mutual analysis of the past, a map for the future, as personal reflections of the keynotes and a representation of who is who.

The objective of the first day is to get to know each other, get to know each others results so far and to start building a vision for the future, whilst the second day is dedicated to future issues (gap analysis). While Martin Wolpers, L3S, will chair the final session on Tuesday, Peter Scott, OU, will give one of the two keynotes.

Here is what Peters' keynote will be about: "Technology enhanced learning claims to improve the quality of learning. Is that true, do we have examples of the quality improvement claimed? In his speech, Peter will demonstrate what present technologies have to offer to learning and he will try to outline what the pedagogical conditions are to really improve quality of learning? From there, Peter will present what R&D challenges he sees for the future."
